The Shepton Mallet Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group is keen to receive enquiries, comments, or suggestions from anyone associated with the town.

We are also looking for more representatives on the Steering Group, particularly from people representing Business, Youth Organisations, and Residents Groups in the Neighbourhood area. If you are interested in volunteering for this task, please contact us.  We plan to go to formal consultation later this year.  If you complete the contact form, we will keep you up to date with events.

About the Steering Group

Funding for the development of the Neighbourhood Plan has come mostly from Government grants , with a small addition from the Town Council, and has been used to obtain professional support from consultants.  All of the work done by local people has been voluntary, none have been paid. 

The current members of the Steering Group are:

Richard Thomas
Chair of the Steering Group
Richard is Vice-Chairman of the Tadley Acres Community Association, and director of the Tadley Acres Phase 7 Estate Management Company Ltd. He is a former member of the Public Relations Consultants Association and the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.


Abbie Chivers
Secretary of the Steering Group
Abbie has been a member of the steering group since 2019 and is proud to have been asked. She both lives and works in Shepton Mallet. Abbie has taken on the task of Secretary to the group.  

Simon Edwards
Steering Group Member
Originally part of the steering group in 2019 and recently rejoined. Simon lives in Shepton Mallet, works in the NHS. and is an active member of various local community groups.

Matt Harrison
Steering Group Member
Matt is Chairman of the Town Council, and lives and runs his own business from Shepton Mallet.

Robin Horton
Steering Group Member
A former IT specialist, Robin joined the Steering Group in 2013 and has been instrumental in providing a great deal of information for the SM Design Guide. He is a co-opted member of the Somerset County Council

Martin is a Somerset County Councillor for Shepton Mallet

Alan has been a keen member of the Steering Group since 2016 and is very experienced in the area of environment and biodiversity
