Matt Harrison 800x1142Cllr Matt Harrison, Chair, Shepton Mallet Town CouncilWelcome...

The Shepton Mallet Neighbourhood Plan is the result of significant work over many years, led by a local team of volunteers supported by the Town Council and assisted by their consultants involving residents and community members. If it passes referendum, it will have legal status to guide future planning approvals, land use, and building design.

The aims of the Plan are:

To support appropriate local planning.
To encourage local business development.
To improve the residential environment.
To protect our heritage and green spaces.
To deliver improved transport and community facilities.

The Neighbourhood Plan is a Vision for 22 years from 2014 - 2036. It is inextricably linked to the vision for the town set out in the Shepton Mallet Town Plan produced by the Town Council and the Mendip District Local Plan.

The purpose of the Neighbourhood Plan is to focus on community development and to provide the framework to deliver benefits for residents, businesses and visitors.

The Plan provides clarity to communities, landowners and other interested parties on how the town will improve and transform for the benefit of the existing and future population.

Our plan is underpinned by a set of twenty eight objectives in five core topic areas. These are developed into specific planning policies - clearly evidenced and justified - that seek to make a positive contribution to sustainable growth for Shepton Mallet, economically, environmentally and socially.

I would like to thank the many many residents of the town who have contributed to developing this plan over the years and those in the town council who have worked so hard to bring it to fruition.
